At Agan’s Bakery, every batch of cookie dough, every swirl of buttercream, and every slice of Georgie Porgie Pie is steeped in tradition. Founded in 1961 by Pledger and Maulsie Bell Agan, our bakery has been a cornerstone of downtown Cartersville for over six decades. Three generations later, the heart and soul of the bakery remain the same, but with some exciting new twists.
From Vaulting Poles to Piping Bags
Abbey Agan, who now helms the bakery, didn’t always plan to carry the family torch. A former University of Georgia pole vaulter with a degree in Education and Sports Business, Abbey once dreamed of working in sports marketing. But life—and buttercream frosting—had other plans.
Growing up at the bakery, Abbey spent her childhood surrounded by the sweet chaos of decorators at work, sneaking tastes of icing, and licking the giant 40-quart paddles clean. The experience ignited a passion that eventually led her back to the family business.
Since taking over in 2009, Abbey has combined her boundless energy and love for the community to modernize Agan’s Bakery while preserving its charm.
A Legacy of Love (and Amazing Buns!)
Running a bakery is no small feat, but Abbey embraces the challenges with a smile—and a good sense of humor. “Working here is more physical than people think,” she says with a laugh. “We make everything from scratch, and our supplies come in 50-pound bags. The girls joke, ‘We work at Agan’s so we have nice buns.’”
Beyond the physicality, it’s the connections with customers and the opportunity to celebrate life’s sweetest moments that keep Abbey going. Whether it’s crafting elaborate wedding cakes or making gluten free cakes, she’s committed to ensuring every customer feels special.
Traditions That Never Fade
One thing that hasn’t changed is our dedication to quality and tradition. From the Georgie Porgie Pie—a decadent blend of fudge, pound cake, and homemade icings—to our famous Chocolate Drops, we still use the same recipes that Abbey’s grandparents perfected in 1961.
Looking for something unique? Our Gingerbread Cookies and Health Cookies offer modern options alongside classic treats. And don’t forget to grab a bag of fresh-baked dinner rolls or a strawberry cake for your next gathering.
Growing for the Future
Abbey’s vision for the bakery includes growth in every sense of the word. From shipping our beloved treats to expanding our decorating and wedding cake services, the future is bright—and delicious.
Agan’s Bakery also reflects Abbey’s commitment to the Cartersville community. When she’s not multitasking at the bakery, she’s spending time with Sam or mentoring young athletes, proving that community and cookies go hand in hand.
